MendelMax 3 – DualExtruder Firmware – GLCD Mod

[ezcol_2third]Da unser MendelMax 3 einen DualExtruder besitzt und auch der GLCD Controller genutzt wird, ergeben sich einige unschöne „Design-Fehler“ in der von Maker’s Tool Works bereitgestellten Marlin Firmware. Ich habe nun auf github eine Modifikation der Firmware bereitgestellt.

Folgende Probleme habe ich gesehen und meine Änderungen daran getätigt:

1. Es wurden immer drei Extruder-Symbole angezeigt.
   Jetzt werden nur noch zwei Extruder-Symbole angezeigt.
   Schaltet man in der Firmware den zweiten Extruder wieder ab, wird nur noch ein Symbol angezeigt.
   Theoretisch funktioniert die Anzeige auch bei einem dreifachen Extruder Aufbau entsprechend, aber das habe ich weder getestet noch wirklich viel Wert auf die Implementierung gelegt.
2. Ursprünglich war der primäre Extruder auf der linken Seite des X-Schlittens. Nach der Installation des zweiten Extruders wird der rechte Extruder der primäre und der linke der sekundäre. Auf dem GLCD wird aber immer der Linke Extruder mit einer „1“ angezeigt, rechts daneben der zweite Extruder mit der „2“ (und ggf. rechts von dem zweiten der dritte Extruder).
   Ich habe nun die Symbole und angezeigten Sensor-Werte entsprechend getauscht (Hex-Code Geschubse). Damit passt die Reihenfolge auf der Anzeige der physisch tatsächlich vorhandenen.
3. Es gab noch kleinere Korrekturen an der Ausrichtung der Symbole, da sie im original einen Pixel zu nah beieinander lagen – imho.

As our MendelMax 3 printer has a dual extruder setup and a GLCD controller is attached to it there are a few layout flaws visible on the screen that comes with the original Maker’s Tool Works firmware. So I uploaded a modified version to github.

The actual problems and my contribution to fix them are as follows:

1. There are always three extruder symbols visible on the GLCD controller’s screen, regardless of the actual setup.
   Now there is only one symbol visible for a single extruder setup, two for a dual extruder setup. There is also legacy code for a three extruder setup, but this setup is neither tested or modified with care by me.
2. While the single extruder setup has only one extruder installed on the left side of the x-sled, the first symbol represents this primary extruder. At the dual extruder setup the primary extruder is the right one and the secondary extruder the left one. But on the GLCD screen it is the exact opposite, which is confusing in my opinion.
   So I switched the symbols and the sensor data (which required a lot of Hex code moving and pushing) so that the screen rendering matches the physical setup.
3. There was a little alignment issue – imho – with the symbols, so I pushed the second symbol one pixel to the right. Seems easy, but again there was some hex code pushing necessary.
